Semi-Automatic Drum Filling Machine

A semi-automatic drum filling machine is a floor-scale based filling station where the operator manually positions each container, and the machine automatically fills to the preset target weight. Operation sequence: operator rolls or carries the empty drum onto the platform scale → the scale reads and stores the tare weight → the fill valve opens automatically (or on foot-pedal trigger) → the machine fills at high flow rate, slowing to dribble near the target → the valve closes at the target net weight → the operator removes the filled drum and positions the next. The "semi-automatic" refers to the manual drum handling — the filling itself (tare, fill, cutoff) is fully automatic. This configuration is preferred for: operations with 50–500 drums/day, mixed container sizes on the same line, lower capital investment vs full automation, and floor layouts that cannot accommodate a conveyor.

Two-speed fill — the machine fills fast (bulk flow) until near the target, then slows (dribble flow) to approach the target weight precisely. Anti-vibration isolation — the floor scale should be isolated from conveyor vibration and operator movement for best accuracy. Container change takes less than 2 minutes. Mid-size containers (30L–60L kegs, 10L–20L cans) — same process, adjust nozzle height and preset weight. Standard drums (200L–220L) — most common application. Large drums (250L non-standard) — with appropriate scale capacity (500kg option). Note: IBC totes (1,000L) require a separate IBC filling station due to different nozzle configuration and scale capacity. Medium viscosity (500–5,000 cP): gear oil, transmission fluid, thick syrups, liquid detergent, latex paint — pump-fed with DN32–DN40 valve, possible heated lines. High viscosity (5,000–20,000 cP): heavy gear oil, resin, adhesive, thick coating — heated vessel and lines, DN40–DN50 valve, screw pump. Very high viscosity (>20,000 cP): bitumen, heavy grease, hot-melt adhesive — heated tank, gear pump, insulated heated lines, temperature control system.
